Support Steve Silicato’s Battle with Throat Cancer
Everyone who knows Steve Silicato knows that he holds family and friends’ dear, and is passionate about many things. They also know that Steve has fallen on hard times. He had a stellar 30 year career as the VP of Sales when the company he worked for was acquired, and his position cut in 2014. This unexpected job loss was a shock.
To say Steve is a hard worker is an understatement, but he struggled to find another permanent position because he was deemed ‘over qualified’. So Steve turned to his lifelong love of singing to pay the bills. While continuing to seek meaningful employment, Steve started to market his vocal talents. He quickly became known for his ability to sing across genres and entertain with his smooth dance moves, his ability to make a crowd laugh, and to get people onto the dance floor.
More adversity!
In 2017 a tree fell on Steve’s house, displacing his family for 11 months. During this time Steve had surgery to repair serious injuries incurred when he and his dog Duke were attacked by two other dogs while on a walk. Steve’s dad was failing at this time as well, and he was by his father’s side daily through the months until he peacefully passed away.
Throughout this past year, Steve started to have issues with his throat and saw an ENT. The doctor said his tonsils had to come out, but during surgery the surgeon found a mass. A biopsy confirmed that it was a malignant (cancerous) tumor on his tonsil. As you can imagine, this was quite a blow.
Since Steve depended on his singing engagements for income, he continued to sing despite the pain right up until his chemo / radiation treatments began last month. Steve’s wife Patty was to start a new job that offered medical benefits, but had to postpone it so she could support and care for Steve during this trying time. Unfortunately the company couldn’t wait any longer and had to fill the position.
The stress that Steve, Patty, and their three children are under is enough without having to worry how they will pay their bills.
Throughout the years Steve has been there to help many others in their time of need by organizing fund raisers and donating his time and talents time and again. Some of the charities that Steve donated his time, services, and money to are The Alzheimer’s Association, The Arthritis Foundation, Delaware Hospice, The Gary Senise Foundation, The Phil Rendina Memorial Fund, American Friends of Italy, Societa DaVinci, and The Delaware Italian American Foundation. Now he needs our help, so I ask all who know and love him, and those that may only learn about him from this posting, to please help. All donations will be gratefully appreciated, so please give whatever you can. Steve and his family will be forever thankful.
