Support Stephen Hockey
I have started this fundraiser for a best friend of many years, Stephen Hockey. I met Steve when I started my apprenticeship at Swift Transport in 1985. First impressions ‘what a rebel’
But hey that all changed as I got to know the man, and over the next 4 years Steve and I did everything together, night clubbing at Rosalind’s on a Friday and Saturday night, Hangar on Wednesday, Redfox listening to Frazer MacKay. On many weekends we were on call for Swift, traveling all over the country getting back late and still finding time to pull into Rosalinds for a few beers, Soapies or spook and diesel. We were like twins, where Steve went, I followed, and my mother fondly referred to him as her third son. At the end of our apprenticeship Steve headed down South and I followed a girl to Mud Island, but we have kept in touch and in 2000 Steve was my Best man in Zim and did an epic best man’s speech.
To cut a long story short a few months Steve started getting stomach pains and was admitted for an appendix operation and they found a small abscess that had burst. The abscess was drained and cleaned out and after a few days Steve was sent home with the all clear. A couple of days later Steve was in excruciating pain and went back to the Trauma unit where he was given pain meds. Steve then saw a specialist and was referred for a CT scan and then the nightmare started. A Huge abscess was found in his stomach 14x14x11cm which was removed under surgery. Steve was still in a lot of pain and they operated again and found a tumour which was removed with 15cm of his intestines. Unfortunately, biopsy results of the tumour show he has cancer and is now being treated with Chemotherapy.
Stepping back to beginning of Steve symptoms he had just landed his dream job in Kenya and was in the process of moving the family up North. Steve had just cancelled his Zim medical aid and was in the process of joining an International one. Steve and Julie have funded all the medical bills to the sum of $40,000 and have exhausted all their savings however there is still a shortfall of $18750 roughly £13700.
This is where we need your help, to all the friends of Steve and Julie, the guys and girls that grew up with him and everyone reading this, please help my friend. I have never met a loyal or more generous person as my friend Steve who has always been there for his friends in need. Steve and Julie opened their home to all their friends and kids on most weekends and their home ended up being referred to as Hocks hotel.
Our target is £13,700 as this fundraiser is here in England, whatever you can contribute will be greatly appreciated. Lets help our Great friend Steve.
Thank you
