Support Steve's Battle Against Stage Four Hodgkin's Lymphoma

My husband, Steve, has been diagnosed with stage four, nodular sclerosis Hodgkin's lymphoma. We are starting this fundraiser to help cover medical costs, as well as living costs. After having some seemingly unrelated symptoms which included a cold that started in October and just wouldn’t go away, Steve’s doctor had him get a chest x-ray on November 21st. The x-ray, and the follow up CT scan, showed a large tumor (~20cm in length) in his chest and 6 nodules (all ~2cm) in his lungs. His biopsy confirmed that he did have cancer and that it was stage 4 nodular sclerosis Hodgkin's lymphoma. Steve received his first chemotherapy infusion on December 12th and he will continue to receive chemotherapy treatment for at least the next 6 months.

Donations will help us pay for his treatment, additional medical costs like prescriptions and sperm banking, and to help fill in some gaps in our cost of living. As we are both graduate students, we rely on student loans to help cover our cost of living (rent, groceries, car insurance etc). Since Steve is needing to take a leave of absence from medical school, we will not be able to receive a large chunk of the loans needed to subsidize our cost of living.

There have been a lot of bumps in the road already, including not being able to receive a port initially because of his tumors compressing the veins needed to place it and a trip to the ER for a clot that he is now on additional medication for. It’s been a lot of restless nights, a lot of tears and lot of time spent trying to figure this all out, but we are so grateful for all the outpouring of love we’ve already experienced. We are so grateful for the littlest donation and feel so lucky to have so many wonderful people in our lives. Thank you.
