Support Steve's Liver Transplant Journey
Donation protected
Hi everyone! We first off want to say thank you for all of the thoughts, prayers, and support that have been pouring in for my brother Steve. He has been dealing with a number of health issues and we wanted to share and ease the pain, both physically and financially, as much as we can for him by starting this GoFundMe.
Late this fall, Stevie started experiencing some fevers and chills over a period of a week. Then it progressed to loss of appetite, fatigue, and jaundice. This led him to visit the Rochester Mayo Clinic to determine what has been going on. After many procedures and tests, they discovered that he has an autoimmune condition that is attacking his liver. There is no reason as to why this may be happening—simply something that can happen to anyone in life. There are no family genetics, nothing he did, or did not do, that has caused this… simply what life may throw at you.
After consulting with many institutions all throughout the United States, it became clear that there are no medications, treatments, or clinical trials that can overcome this disease. This autoimmune condition can progress extremely quickly, so we were advised and it was very essential to get on the transplant list immediately. The only “cure” would be a liver transplant.
On the morning of January 3rd, 2025, Stevie received a phone call that would forever change his life and was given a donor and a transplant at the Rochester Mayo Clinic! He is so thankful for his donor, and in great spirits. He is now in recovery mode where a long road awaits. But he is using his athlete mindset and is trusting the process! “Win the day!!” as he always says.
With that being said, there are numerous medical bills and expenses ranging from the procedure, hospital stay/living situation in Rochester, medications, and continuous tests that are on the horizon for him. It will cause a financial burden for the foreseeable future as it’s going to take him a while to get back on his feet. He would never ask for any money himself, but we and many people have seen him continue to fight. For this reason, we have started this page to help support him throughout this difficult time. We are rallying all of his support group, hockey family, friends, neighbors, and strangers! Any type of donation is greatly appreciated. It will mean more than you could ever imagine to him. We thank everyone for all of your thoughts and prayers!
