Support Striking Workers at Macy's

More than 400 UFCW 3000 retail workers at Macy’s stores in the Alderwood, Southcenter, and Bellis Fair Malls announced in a press conference recently that they will be holding a 3-day Unfair Labor Practice (ULP) Strike from November 24-26, 2023.
The all-member Bargaining Team put forward comprehensive proposals, that included safety for workers and shoppers and fair livable wages.
Macy’s workers are STRIKING for:
• A FAIR BARGAIN: Macy’s has violated labor law by intimidating a bargaining team member, interfering with the Union’s right to talk to our own members and bargaining in bad faith.
• SAFETY: Macy’s say retail theft is a big issue, but they aren’t doing enough to address shoplifting and safety threats to workers and their customers. Other stores in the mall have security officers, but we’re left on our own facing shoplifters who sometimes brandish knives or guns.
• LIVABLE WAGES: Macy’s profits were $1.43 Billion and $1.17 Billion in the last two years but the Company is effectively cutting members’ pay by offering tiny raises compared to inflation. Macy’s workers have years of experience and provide high levels of knowledge and service to customers. Despite having expertise in their field, many workers are living paycheck to paycheck and some have stopped getting health insurance through Macy’s because the premiums and copays are so high. Macy’s workers deserve better.
A strike could create undue hardship for workers and their families. Today, we are asking for your solidarity with Macy’s workers who will be out on the line beginning November 24, 2023. Here are few ways you can help:
• SHOP ELSEWHERE: Don’t shop at Macy’s starting now until the Macy’s workers get a fair contract.
• Donate to this GoFundMe that supports the UFCW 3000 Membership Assistance Fund and the workers on strike. UFCW 3000 has an established program where members can request assistance on unexpected hardship caused by reduction of hours due to extended illness, house fires, natural disasters, and domestic violence support. Funds raised through this GoFundMe will prioritize hardship requests from members on strike and any excess funds will be housed in the UFCW 3000 Membership Assistance Fund for future hardship needs of UFCW 3000 members.
• Join workers on the strike line. Go to macysunited.com for the location and other details.
• Attend the Striking Workers Parade to honor the workers who are taking this action on behalf of their coworkers and all of us in the community on November 24th at 9:00 AM. Go to https://actionnetwork.org/events/strike-parade for more details.
It’s high time Macy’s put their people, not their profits, first. Our deepest thanks for your support of the Macy’s workers on strike and to the hardship fund.
