Support Stuart through Karl's Cancer Treatment
Donation protected
On Dec 4 2019, Stuart Greaves and Kjesten Wiig received news no parent ever wants to hear. Their son, Karl age 18, was diagnosed with an advanced sarcoma. Karl is a wonderful young man who just completed his final year of secondary school and was preparing to attend university starting in February 2020.
Despite his family living in New Zealand, Stuart is very close with his children, and the miles between him and Karl have not impacted their tight father-son relationship. Stu and Kjesten are great parents whom despite the physical distance between Pawtucket and Wellington have worked closely to raise Karl and Charlotte and they are both devastated by this diagnosis.

It is still early in the diagnosis, there will be many doctor appointments and tests required to develop a targeted treatment plan that will include radiation, chemotherapy, and surgery. Although the physical distance has not been a challenge in the past – it has become a challenge as Kjesten and Stuart meet with doctors via FaceTime. As you might imagine, those appointments would be better in person.
Understandably, Stuart wants to be with Karl, hug him, and provide loving support. He needs to be with his family so that they may navigate this emotionally and physically demanding time – together.

This GoFundMe has been established to assist Stuart in offsetting the significant travel costs, and additional expenses related to staying in New Zealand for an unspecified period and covering living expenses for a potentially unpaid work leave.
Anyone who knows Stuart has been touched by his generosity, as well as his good counsel, kind words, great music, fun visits, stories, and laughs. Stuart has always been willing and available to help others. Simply put, he is a great friend to many people. It’s our time to help Stuart.

Stuart and Kjesten have a large circle of friends who we hope will contribute what they can and pass this along to other friends. Together, we can get Stuart to Karl and relieve him of financial burden so he and Kjesten can focus solely on getting Karl healthy
Once Karl has completed his treatment and all expenses related to his illness are settled, any unused funds will be donated to the Cancer Research Trust, New Zealand (https://www.cancerresearchtrustnz.org.nz/)
