Support for STEM-talented students in UK state schools
COMPOS is a unique outreach programme which supports STEM-talented students in UK state schools by providing a whole year of expert tuition. Weekly tutorials are delivered to small groups online led by an expert tutor and supported with a range of challenging and interesting assignments which go beyond the school curriculum.
We are open to anyone in school Years 10-13 who has a passion for physics and maths, with the aim of improving their confidence and problem solving skills, and increasing the number of students choosing STEM degree courses.
We believe STEM is for everyone and work to make sure our students reflect the diversity of the UK, ensuring we have a representative number of students from non-selective schools, female students, and students who receive financial support like free-school meals. This year we had 30% female students and 20% who received free school meals.
COMPOS is part of the Physics Department at the University of Oxford and is entirely funded through philanthropic gifts.
£25 covers the costs for one student for a week. A full 32 week programme costs £975, including all tuition, access to an online learning platform, all learning materials and the expertise, management and safeguarding provided by our staff.
We partner with WE SOLVE PROBLEMS CIO to operate the COMPOS programme, and every donation will help. Thank you in advance for your contribution to this cause that will make a difference to each individual student and to the future of science in the UK.
