Support Susan's Battle Against Bile Duct Cancer

Susan Mousley is a devoted wife, mother of three young children, and a middle school English teacher. She has touched countless lives with her kindness and generosity. Her family is everything, and her love and dedication are evident in every aspect of her life. During the summer of 2023, Susan began experiencing a dull pain in her upper abdomen. Initially, she thought it was a minor health issue. Then the dizzy spells started. Her routine doctor visit quickly turned into a whirlwind of CT and MRI tests that revealed an unexpected and devastating diagnosis—cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer). Cholangiocarcinoma is a rare and extremely aggressive form of cancer that attacks the bile ducts within the liver. Susan and her family were shocked by the diagnosis. Prayer warriors began praying for a miracle. She put on the armor of Jesus Christ and went into battle, determined to win.
Susan began chemotherapy and immunotherapy treatments every other week, starting in October 2023 and continuing through May 2024. While these treatments initially helped slow the disease's progression, Susan’s oncologists recommended a new strategy in June: surgically placing a hepatic pump to deliver chemotherapy directly to her liver. Surgeons installed the pump with a catheter into the hepatic artery, delivering chemotherapy directly into the liver. This strategy has been fraught with unexpected complications. The pump could not be used for four months due to problems that caused several setbacks. Systemic chemotherapy through her port continued, and after three embolization surgeries, the doctors were finally able to activate the pump. Susan and her husband, Steve, had to travel to Manhattan over a period of five months. Each trip was a financial burden: trains, hotels, cabs, food, and especially lost income. Susan was hospitalized in Manhattan for 11 days during one trip. Routine bi-weekly chemotherapy treatments now occur in New Jersey and will continue for the next year. Transportation, accommodations, and loss of income have created a heavy financial burden. Their credit cards are maxed out. Despite all this, Susan continues to teach, take her kids to baseball practice, and pick them up after school events. She also leads a student club honoring our country’s veterans and war dead.
I am Susan’s father, and I humbly request that you consider contributing to this GoFundMe campaign. Every contribution, no matter how small, makes a meaningful impact. We are trying to alleviate the financial burden her family has incurred. Susan needs to focus on what truly matters—her health and healing. Contributions will help cover the cost of medical bills, transportation, accommodations, and lost income. This young family continues to live a “miracle in progress,” using the hepatic pump to fight this terrible cancer. This campaign will donate any unused funds for Susan’s treatment to the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation, whose mission is “to find a cure and improve the lives of those affected” by this disease (cholangiocarcinoma.org).
Please keep Susan in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you for being part of her journey toward hope and healing. Together, we can help her stay strong and fight back against cholangiocarcinoma.
