My name is Corey Chastain, husband of Sydney Chastain.
This week on 10/31, Sydney and I were set to move to Ohio for my work with our 2 year old son Oliver. Sydney has struggled with migraines for most of her life, but after a particularly bad one that lasted four days we were very concerned and, we went to the St Joseph's ER in Savannah on Monday, 10/28/24. They did a CT scan and found a mass in the ventricles of her brain. After a MRI showing the full size of the mass, we decided to transfer to Duke Hospital in North Carolina to see their Neurology team about next steps.
To say Duke has been wonderful is an understatement. They moved our appointment up to 10/30, sat down with us, created a treatment plan, and we have been given answers and a plan going forward. Dr. Patrick Codd is going to do a craniectomy in order to remove the tumor, which currently measures 5.4cm x 4.5 cm. That surgery will take place Monday, 11/4 and will take anywhere from 6-10 hours. During the surgery, they will run pathology on the tumor and that will dictate the "what is it" and if further treatment is needed. Sydney will stay in Duke ICU for a few days and, when released from the hospital, we will remain with my sister and cousin in Raleigh to recover for about 2 weeks.
God has been so good to us and provided wonderful friends and family to care for our son while we are away for a few weeks in NC. We ask that you keep Sydney and our family in your prayers.
Thank you all for asking what we need- right now we are pretty anxious having our house on the market, belongings in storage, and plans completely altered in an instant, but regardless we are anticipatory about Monday, and trusting in the Lords timing and rejoice in his care.
