My name is Alicia Jennings, I am from Spartanburg, SC. I am creating this fundraiser for my mother, Sylvia Jennings. My mother has been fighting stage 4 laryngeal cancer for 3 years. She received her diagnosis back in February 2022. From that point, we knew her fight with this terrible disease would not be easy as we lost our grandfather (mama's dad) the same way.
We first started chemotherapy and radiation at Gibbs Cancer Center. Her first treatment, we almost lost her; her levels plummeted, and she contracted C-Diff due to how strong the chemo was for her 80-pound body. She ended up needing a G-tube to help her get the vitamins and nutrients she needs. We then transferred her to Greenville with the Cancer Institute. Radiation was hard on her, so we spoke with her ENT to discuss removing the cancer. On top of the cancer, my mother has a long history of COPD. One day, she was struggling to breathe, and we rushed her to her ENT's office to discuss a tracheostomy because the cancer on top of the COPD was causing her not to expel CO2 from her oxygen. She ended up going into respiratory distress and stopped breathing in the doctor's office. It was one of the most traumatic experiences of our lives. She ended up being intubated to help her lungs recover, then that led to her tracheostomy surgery. She did well with it until we had to talk about doing a laryngectomy, which is the removal of her voice box. It was so hard to cope with that I would never hear my mother's voice ever again.
After that, we began immunotherapy to see if that would work, but unfortunately, it did not. PET scans kept growing and moved to her lungs. We were then told we only had one more chemotherapy to try, and if that didn't help, nothing would. Here we are today, and nothing is working. After the two rounds of chemo, radiation, laryngectomy, immunotherapy, surgeries, everything, nothing is working. She has been doing research on another treatment option, a vitamin C drip, and ivermectin. We traveled to Atlanta, GA, to a consultation with this medical facility. They gave her a thorough exam and told her she would be a perfect candidate for this treatment, but unfortunately, her Medicare and Medicaid will NOT pay for anything with this new treatment option. The treatment will cost $4000. If anyone could please donate or just even share to get the word out. My mama deserves this treatment and is our last light of hope. She has always given her shirt off her back to help others but never asks for help. ANYTHING IS GREATLY APPRECIATED!! We are also in the works of doing a community fundraiser as well! CANCER SUCKSSSSS!!
