Support Liberation is Lit's Fight for Literary Freedom

Hi, my name is Tayler, and I am a Radical Reader. I started Liberation is Lit because I didn't want just to read books. Liberation is Lit was able to open a storefront for a month with an incubator grant, and now I need help to stay in the space. Liberation is Lit is a bookseller that aims to spark collective action for liberation and community building among readers and book lovers by promoting stories from intersectional experiences.
In 2019, I started a blog on the books I was reading. I wrote a lot about how different books made me feel about the world and how they moved us toward liberation. In 2023, I quit my job to transform Liberation is Lit into a bookstore and community resource. There is a shift happening in the world of readers. Politicians, parent groups, and extreme political groups are banning books from libraries and school districts and stripping rights to render marginalized communities powerless. Readers deserve to see themselves in the books they read; when we strip that right away, it can be an isolating experience. Banning books is turning the time back on progress.
The broker and landlord are concerned about my financial situation, even though I am confident through the partnerships I have created and diversifying my revenue sources, I will be able to cover the rent and associated expenses. I plan to raise money for six months of expenses-- rent, insurance, and signage-- (in addition to collecting letters of support from prominent community members) to show that I can sustain staying in the location. I am confident that my community can help me make this happen!
If you could support by donating what you can or purchasing from the store (liberationislit.com), or even sharing with your own community, any support would be greatly appreciated!
