In August 2023, the Belo Family experienced the worst tragedy any parent can imagine.....losing their beautiful daughter, Danjela, to brain cancer. While still processing their grief, the family was recently dealt another blow when they received a diagnosis of colon cancer for Marc....the rock of the family. The family continues to remain #BeloStrong as they prepare to face this fight once again. Prayers and good thoughts are always appreciated.

Announcement of Dani's passing - Aug. 2023

Our beautiful baby girl Danjela passed away peacefully in my arms early this morning at 2:30am. (8/15)

While I cradled her, Marc and Nadija were in bed snuggling her. I told her it was ok for her to go see Bubbe, Zoja, and Mitzi because they were waiting for her. I told her that she is taking a piece of our hearts with her and we will always remember her with love and especially laughter.

It was a very peaceful and pain-free passing. She was very comfortable and under no stress. She simply fell asleep in my arms.

Dr. Jean came back to the hospital and sat with us for awhile, and we had a Chaplain come in and anoint Dani.

The worst part was having to leave her behind. Before we left, I asked a nurse to be with her because I didn't want my baby alone even for a minute. We covered her with her fuzzy pink blanket and said our last goodbyes. They almost had to pry me off her.

There are a lot of unknowns for us to navigate over the next few days. Please be patient as we try to figure out arrangements that we never wanted to plan.

But most importantly, thank you all for staying with us on this journey.

In June 2016, then 11-year old Danjela was diagnosed with CNS Neuroblastoma (a form of brain cancer) after discovering a 7cm brain tumor had burst and was bleeding into her brain.

Danjela endured 30 radiation treatments and then 6 months of chemotherapy before being declared to be in remission in 2017.

Unfortunately, in 2018, the tumor returned. Danjela had another surgery to remove this tumor and began an experimental chemotherapy treatment. The treatment ended up triggering seizures and Danjela ended up hospitalized for 6 weeks due to effects from the seizures which included right-side paralysis/weakness, speech & memory issues.  

Once Dani was stronger, she began another round of radiation to treat the remaining tumor. But unfortunately, Dani's tumor is sneaky and devious and keeps popping up in small spots. In 2020, she had 3 separate rounds of targeted radiation to treat the pop-up spots.

Danjela's tumor is persistent & relentless. While most times her tumors respond to some form of treatment, it almost always comes back.

Danjela's family has set up this GoFundMe to help alleviate the extreme medical expense of treating a child with cancer -- prescriptions for Dani, any therapeutic equipment she may need, as well as providing an additional "treat" to lift the family's spirits every once in awhile.
