A Gift of Time During Hospice for Ted Grimm
We would like to preface this by thanking everyone who has already generously blessed our dear friend Ted Grimm and his daughter, Jenny, with their thoughts, support, love and kindness during Ted’s cancer journey.
Ted is a loving, caring Father, Son, Brother, Papa and Friend. He has a love for boating, fishing and his Harley’s. For years, he was an awesome Hockey Coach to a lot of kids whose parents became like family. He has always been a fun person to be around and certainly has touched the lives of many.
In November, Ted was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic lung cancer that spread to his brain. There were seven tumors discovered in the brain causing loss of memory and confusion. He underwent radiation in an effort to shrink the tumors and started a course of oral chemo drugs. He seemed to be gaining more strength and cognitive functions, which gave us hope. Unfortunately, Ted once again became confused and the same symptoms returned. After several trips to the ER and a few hospital stays it was discovered that the oral chemo was not working and more tumors were growing, both in the brain and lungs. The doctor's recommended a different course of action, chemo via Infusions. This treatment took a toll on Ted and after 1 week at home in bed, back to the ER he went. He had a seizure due to his new and growing tumors. So, he once again had to spend more time in the hospital to get stabilized.
After many conversations with doctors and family, it was decided that the right choice moving forward, was to focus on quality versus quantity. As of today, Ted was brought home on hospice. No more chemo, no more radiation, no more blood draws, no more driving back and forth to Cancer Care, or visits the ER, and no more hospital stays. Moving forward, we can focus on comfort and spending quality time with one another. Time to share conversations and moments with his friends and family that will be cherished forever.
This is why we want to start this fundraiser. Your donation will allow Ted to stay home and get the care he needs for end of life. This will also allow Jenny, who has been his primary care giver can continue to assist where needed with her dad, but can also focus on raising her 3 year old niece, Tess, and return back to work knowing her dad will be cared for. Donations will help to cover hospice care, house expenses, missed pay from not being able to work while navigating this, and all the other unexpected costs that will come up along the way.
We understand not everyone is in the position to donate, but please share this with friends and family as you see fit
