My name is Tesla Worley and I am trying to raise money to help buy material to rebuild my home. My home was struck by lightning in a bad storm one night. When it struck, it messed up a lot of the electrical plugs. The plugs would randomly catch fire, so I called my insurance company and started a claim. They told me to get a contractor out to see what needed to be done to fix the home. I then got in touch with a contractor, and he came out and gave me an itemized quote to fix the home. In order to fix the house, the walls and ceilings needed to be stripped to replace the wiring in the home; therefore, the house needed to be demoed all but the floors. Insurance approved what needed to be done and wrote me a check. I then hired the contractor to come repair my home. We signed a contract with him stating we had to pay out $58,000 to begin. The cost was paying for the full amount of an electrician because it had to be subbed out, half the labor, and the cost of material. I then wrote a check for the $58,000 and gave it to the contractor. Everything started out well; he had his crew and a dumpster at my house the next day and started demo. The demo was supposed to only take 4 days and about 2 months to complete the whole project. I had noticed that it was starting to get odd because every day I would go check on the house, fewer and fewer guys would be there working. I would call, and he would have some reason why they weren't there that day. Then a few weeks into the demo, the house flooded. I went to the house to check on it and noticed my entire living room was flooded. I called the contractor and asked if his guys had been there that day. He said they were there for a short time. I told him about the house being flooded, and he claimed it wasn't his guys. I called the insurance company and filed another claim for the floors. The insurance adjuster came out to the home and met with the contractor and told him no one was living in the home and he was the one doing the demo on the house, so he was responsible for the floors. I then got a text from him the next day stating he was going to go his separate ways and he would deduct the work he had done and such and write a check for the rest. He tried to claim he was $28,000 in on the demo and would only give us $30,000 back. He only quoted the demo for $5,000. After he sent me the text saying he was going his separate ways, I never heard from him again. He kept the entire $58,000 and left the house demoed. He left me and my four children homeless. He took everything from me and my family, and I do not have the money to rebuild my home.
