Support the Appleby Family in Their ALS Journey

Hello,

For over a year Josh has been coping with a variety of medical issues with no diagnosis. Beginning in spring 2023, Josh had swelling in his joints, then rapidly experienced symptoms such as difficulty speaking and struggles with dexterity. It took almost a year, and a specialized trip to Hershey Medical for he and his family to receive an answer to the medical challenges Josh had been dealing with.

After a three-day stay in the hospital which included a battery of tests and a slew of exams, doctors were finally able to determine a diagnosis of ALS--commonly known as Lou Gehrig's Disease.

As you can imagine, the family is learning to understand this disease and begin to process the many many facets of disability. No one is ever prepared for medical difficulties, but a disability such as ALS brings with it many lifestyle changes for Josh and his family. At this time the family will need to begin relocating to a home that has only one floor (they currently live in a 3 story home). The new home will need to be as move-in ready as possible, which is currently a bit out of their price range.

It is a progressive disease meaning that Josh's body and symptoms are constantly changing. This will clearly require changes to continuously occur within the families' lives: new vehicles for ease of access and commuting to Hershey Medical (1 hour trip one way), handicap accessibility adaptations within their home, and equipment such as wheelchairs, to begin to name a few.
