Support the Atkins Family

On February 4, 2024 Mike posted the following:

"Well, this certainly isn't easy... But I know many of you have already heard, so I might as well clear things up. I've been diagnosed with a brain tumor. I had a series of seizures Wednesday morning (never had one before). The doctors ran an MRI at the hospital and discovered the tumor on the left side of my brain. I have several follow up appointments scheduled over the next week or two so that we can generate the best course of action.

You never think it's gonna be you, but some day it'll happen to each of us. There's a lot that I don't know yet... But one thing you can be sure as hell of... I'm gonna do whatever I can to kick this thing's ass and continue to live the best life that I can, however many days that might be.

I appreciate how many of you have already reached out wanting to help. I'm sure I'll call in some of those favors at some point (I'm not able to drive for a while so I'm sure I'll need help in that aspect). My main ask is that you help my wife and girls throughout this. I'll be ok...knowing that they have your love and support is the best way to help.

To my brothers and sisters in the Fire Service, know that I already miss the 24 hour shifts with you. Hold things down for me, train hard, and take care of each other. It's the best job in the world...

God is so, so great... We may not always understand why things happen, but I do know that he loves each of us and that he's ultimately in control. Hug your loved ones extra long and tight tonight and just enjoy the time that you do have here. I know I have, and that's not gonna change now!"

Mike and Curt know that they have a lot of people waiting in the wings to help. Your prayers and love are what they need right now, and there will be a meal train set up once there are more details about Mike's course of treatment.
