Support The Black and Funny Improv Festival

**We reached our stretch goal, but we want to go even further! This is one year, but BAFIF is planning to go on for many, many more. Every additional donation sets us up for financial security moving forward.**
The mission of the Black and Funny Improv Festival (lovingly known as BAFIF) is to uplift Black voices, raise the profile of improv as an art form, and give people good reason to laugh. We set out to build a stronger, more inclusive community through comedy.
HUGE Improv Theater was the birthplace of BAFIF, and, for the last eight years, has been the most generous sponsor of the festival. HUGE offered us a home and fiscal sponsorship, and even covered our costs, which has almost always been more than the revenue the festival generated. HUGE continues to support the festival full heartedly and that will not change any time soon. However, they are still dealing with large unexpected expenses (after having bought their very own building!) and are not in a comfortable enough financial position to provide in the same way they have in the past. That’s why we’re turning to you.
Putting on a festival takes time and money. To be transparent, BAFIF’s largest expense by far is providing housing for our visiting performers. We provide housing in order to remove a barrier from participating in our festival for performers who might otherwise be unable to come to Minneapolis to partake in and serve our important mission. Group housing is also a large component of creating community among Black artists and comedians. In other words, we firmly believe it is a worthy expense.
Other expenses we would like to cover or subsidize:
- Scholarships for workshops
- Free show tickets for accessibility and reach
- Payment for the Festival Ensemble director (which is essentially a free intensive workshop for independent Black artists)
- Travel stipend for visiting artists with need
- Advertising costs
- Hospitality for participants and audience
Join us in spreading joy, fostering community, breaking down barriers, and embracing the power of laughter to unite us all. A contribution to our festival helps us provide a platform for underrepresented talent, create opportunities for aspiring comedians, ensure Black voices are heard and celebrated, and make for a darn good time. It will help BAFIF in the short-term as well as setting us up for a future of continued success.
Your generosity will make a tangible difference in the lives of performers and the improv comedy landscape.
The Black & Funny Improv festival is March 21 - 24 at HUGE Theater. More information is available at BlackAndFunny.com.
We will be raising funds through this GoFundMe through March 7.
Thank you for your support. We appreciate you.
