Support The Canvass: A Mockumentary Sitcom

“The Canvass” is a mockumentary about the most hated people in America: door-to-door fundraisers. Developed by two former canvassers, the show asks: How do a bunch of young people survive poor pay, angry homeowners, and vicious dogs? Well, it's not exactly in the "mission-driven" ways you might expect.

Our show has been 7 years in the making. In it, the central office overseeing Philadelphia has hired film student interns to document the workings of the Philly office in the hopes of sniffing out malfeasance, increasing efficiency, and growing the office. Will it work? In a word: no. In two words: still no.

The Canvass is a show of our time. It offers a goofy escape from everyday life. But it also holds a mirror up to a universal experience of being trapped by modern institutions, as well as the ubiquity of cameras both for surveillance and self-promotion. We, the ever-watched, ever-tracked, ever-evaluated people in this society want something real to laugh at. Our 8-episode season will deliver exactly that.

Self-funding allows us the independence to ensure that The Canvass is driven by the creative process of those involved, with no outside influences. However, to take this to the next level, we need your help. We want to make sure we don't have to cut corners in production, and, most importantly to us, we want to make sure everybody who contributes to this production gets paid a fair wage.

So we're doing what we do best: canvassing! We’re asking you to give what you can -- not your entire savings, just most of it! The best thing about a production is that it creates a community of people all contributing their own unique creative energies to make something special.
