Support the Casarez Family

As many of us know, Gil Casarez has been hospitalized with COVID-19 since September 30th. While both Jane and Gil got sick, Jane recovered at home. Gil’s children saw how much he was struggling and had him taken to the hospital. He’s received fantastic care, but like many with this horrible virus has been put through the ringer, ventilator, tracheostomy, lots of antibiotics for ongoing infection, treatment of fever….the list goes on. Thankfully, it seems his improvement while slow, has been steady.

COVID doesn’t care about our timeline either, as this unfortunately comes shortly after the death of his father and the memorial service for both of his parents. Needless to say this has taken both an emotional and financial toll on Jane as she waits for word of any improvement. This past week, she was allowed into the hospital to see him with her own eyes through a window. She could talk to him and he knew she was there. No doubt, this has helped his drive to recover. Add to it, his kids who have been supporting their mama during this challenging time and a large circle of family & friends keeping vigil with prayers, good thoughts and reaching out to support the family.

As you can imagine, finances are tight. The stress on Jane is unimaginable – money, shouldn’t have to be on her mind. The only thing on her mind should be being at Gil’s side as he recovers. Gil and Jane have long given to their community, family & friends. Without being asked, they’ve given selflessly when a child, family member or friend was in need. Let’s show them appreciation and take some of the struggle out of Gil’s recovery.

This coming week Gil is expected to be transferred to Los Angeles so they can begin weening him off the trach and help support the long physical rehabilitation back to the strength he once had post COVID. Anyone who knows Gil knows that he will do whatever it takes to get back to Jane and his kids (and grandson) and family. This effort will not be without struggle, but financial struggle shouldn’t enter either of their minds.
