Support the Children’s Library-Smiths Falls

We are the Friends of the Smiths Falls Public Library fundraising for library furnishings for the children’s floor of the Smiths Falls Public Library. Over the next few months we are looking to raise ~$100,000 to pay for furniture and fixtures for the newly renovated children’s area of the Smiths Falls Public Library.

On the top floor of a building that is central to our community, and physically located in our town square, you will find the children’s area of the Smiths Falls Public Library. Our goal is to have all of the children in our community using this library, and having a positive experience.

The Smiths Falls Children’s Library has not seen any significant updating in over 20 years. The current physical renovation is fully funded and will provide more space, light and access.

But now we need furniture and fixtures to complete this important project …and this is where we can use your help!

The renovation provides a huge opportunity to design a layout, and purchase appropriate, safe, flexible, ergonomic, adjustable, furniture and fixtures that align with current children’s learning models, activities, and programs. Our focus is to purchase multiple types of seating (including cushions and mats), tables, easily moveable furniture, bookshelves, shelving, storage, fixtures, toys, and activity centres. In collaboration with the library staff, who are working with key vendors of library furniture, our role is to assist the library to keep current, and renew, update, and purchase items that best match the changing needs of our community and children.

The design and furniture is so important to the activities that currently play a significant part in our programming: in addition to the obvious provision of ample space for quiet reading, we have the following programs:

• Baby Time

• Stories and More

• Drop-in Programs

• Kids after school hangout

• Teen Night

• Teen Advisory Board

In effect, you are supporting the creation of a ‘third place’ in our community for children and caregivers to relax, hangout, feel welcomed, entertained, and stimulated in a safe, secure, comfortable, inclusive, and accessible environment.

Your donation, of any amount, can help support this project. All money raised will go directly to the purchase of much needed furnishing and fixtures of this great space.
