I want it to be known that Dan and Miriam did not ask me to do this. I have long considered Dan one of my best friends dating back to college. I, like many of you, saw their Facebook post on August 7 asking for prayer. I reached out to Dan and knew we had to do something to help get him and Miriam back on their feet. He shared his appreciation for their church body in Florida and everyone who has reached out to them.

In June of 2021, Dan tested positive for COVID-19 and has had a very severe case. Though Dan was able to avoid hospitalization, he later was diagnosed with what doctors are calling "Long COVID". Fast-forward to October and he is still feeling the effects physically, mentally, and neurologically. Most days consist of exhaustion, chest tightness, and achiness. Dan has also suffered through insomnia and has been prescribed medication to help. Through all of this Miriam has been the backbone of the family, caring for Dan the entire time as he has not been able to work.
Though they hoped the side effects would pass, they have unfortunately gotten worse. Dan and Miriam have started to go to counseling, along with seeing psychiatrists, and neurologists in attempts to overcome some of the challenges they have faced. Dan has experienced debilitating panic attacks, repetitive anxiety, OCD fears, and depression. None of which he experienced prior to COVID.
They are now at the point where they have used up all of their sick leave. On October 4th, they will also be without insurance. If you know Dan and Miriam, you know that they have spent the last few years serving as house parents for a trauma treatment program. Due to the unfortunate circumstances, Dan and Miriam are now being forced to leave Florida and move to Wisconsin to live with Dan's partner because of financial constraints.
Dan told me this has been the hardest trial of his life, but he knows God is sovereign through it all and He will sustain them.
