Yet, many of its residents face significant challenges, including limited access to educational resources, career opportunities, and essential services. The Community Enrichment Project of Hawaii was founded to bridge these gaps, nurture our youth, and empower our communities through innovative, culturally rich programs.

Our Mission

The Community Enrichment Project of Hawaii empowers rural communities on Hawaii Island by integrating STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) education, cultural enrichment, and sustainability practices. Our goal is to inspire creativity, foster collaboration, and preserve Hawaii’s unique heritage for generations to come.

The Challenges We Face

Hawaii County ranks lowest in the state in health outcomes, educational opportunities, and economic stability, where households often find themselves struggling to meet basic needs. Many students lack access to equitable educational resources, resulting in limited interest in pursuing higher education and professional trades. As a rural community, populations experience limited access to medical and social services, resulting in gaps in care, preventable progression of disease, and avoidable disease burden. Additionally, residents face limited opportunity for career growth due to lack of job diversity, tourism and hospitality sector dominance, and economic stagnation, resulting in poor economic and environmental sustainability.

These disparities create an economic landscape where it becomes difficult to thrive, resulting in resident outmigration, and weakening of the island's cultural fabric and social cohesion.

Our Vision in Action

Here’s how your support will directly impact our community in Year 1:

STEAM Afterschool Workshops: Fun, hands-on sessions teaching STEAM concepts and Hawaiian cultural arts
STEAM Summer Camps: Weeklong immersive camps to spark interest in STEAM careers
Artistic Expression Workshops: Blending traditional Hawaiian arts like lei crafting with modern techniques
500 STEAM Learning Kits: Topical learning kits for students to learn at their own pace

How We’ll Use Your Contributions

Our initial goal of $25,000 will allow us to:

Fund resources and supplies for workshops and summer camps
Develop and distribute 500 STEAM learning kits
Host 8 workshops and 2 summer camps by the end of the year
Launch our first community needs assessment survey to further identify and address local priorities
