Support the Construction of a recycling center in Kanya

I am James Wakibia, a passionate environmental activist and photojournalist from Kenya, with over a decade experience in the fight against plastic pollution. My journey began in 2013 when I was deeply troubled by the plastic waste littering my hometown, Nakuru. Determined to make a change, I launched a campaign dubbed #IsupportBanPlasticsKE, which played a crucial role in the ban on single-use plastic bags in Kenya in 2017. This ban is considered one of the strictest in the world.
Before the ban, supermarkets alone distributed over 100 million plastic bags annually, causing severe environmental damage. These bags clogged drains, hung on trees, polluted our water systems and were eaten by livestock. Thanks to collective efforts, including my advocacy and use of social media, we now see a significant reduction in plastic bags pollution in Kenya.
The Kenyan ban has largely been successful.
However, the fight against plastic waste is far from over. Plastic bottles, wrappers, bags, straws, casings and foams continue to plague our environment. To address this, I am launching a new initiative: a recycling plant targeting recyclable plastics, especially widely used high-density plastics, bottles, and agricultural plastics. This project aims not only to enhance environmental conservation but also to create socio-economic opportunities for the community. This does not mean I will stop my advocacy campaigns, on contrary, I will use my center, photography and social media to campaign.
The recycling center will also have a space dedicated to educate the community on best practices in addressing plastic pollution.
Over the years, my activism has been recognized globally. As a lead campaigner, my efforts have been featured in major international media. My work has inspired many, and with your support, we can continue to make a significant impact. Campaigning on social media has created a lot of awareness, and I believe recycling will bring about more meaningful change.
By supporting this campaign, you are helping fight the war on plastic pollution. Together, we can turn the tide on plastic pollution and create a sustainable future. Every effort to stop plastic pollution matters.
