Support the Construction of TAWF's New Animal Sanctuary
Tahira Animal Welfare Foundation (TAWF) is a registered charity in Scotland and Pakistan. Since November 2020, we are operating a state-of-the-art animal shelter and rescue service in Faisalabad, Pakistan. At TAWF, we rescue, rehabilitate, and provide shelter to injured, abused, and neglected animals.
Our mission is crucial in a society where animals often face abuse without reason. Dogs are poisoned or shot due to misconceptions and intolerance.
Our efforts go beyond rescue. We manage overpopulation through humane TNVR (Trap, Neuter, Vaccinate, Return), which also controls the spread of rabies, endemic in Pakistan.
Additionally, we fight against cruelty to working animals. Equines in Pakistan endure long hours of hard labor and brutal treatment. The socio-economic class that owns these animals is often uneducated and underprivileged, lacking knowledge about animal welfare. We offer free medical care and work to instill empathy through community awareness sessions.
Our "Child Awareness Project" teaches coexistence and compassion at the classroom level. Education is key to creating a more compassionate society for animals.
Importance of Our Work:
TAWF is the only hope for animals in Pakistan's third-largest city. There is no other rescue service or shelter within a 100-mile radius. We are Pakistan’s only animal shelter equipped with advanced medical and diagnostic facilities. Our team includes in-house vets, carers, and rescuers.
Impact Over the Last Three Years:
- Rescued over 8,000 animals.
- Neutered and vaccinated more than 5,000 dogs and cats.
- Provided medication and vaccinations to 6,500 animals during the 2022 floods.
- Educated 1,200 school students about animal rights and welfare through our awareness project which was initiated 2 years ago.
- Rescued over 300 abandoned working equines, with 56 provided long-term sanctuary.
- Helped a total of over 18,000 animals.
Current Needs:
In 2020, our shelter was built on rented land, funded by the chairperson. As awareness of our work spread, demand for our services grew. We now care for over 300 animals and assist rescues from other cities. However, our landlord has given us notice to vacate the land by 2025. Fortunately, a trustee's family has generously donated permanent land of one acre for our shelter.
Our next challenge is moving to this permanent land. We need to construct various sections, including medical rooms, an operating theater, a diagnostic lab, a cat medical unit and cattery, dog kennels and sanctuary, donkey sheds and sanctuary, a bird aviary, and more. The new facility will significantly increase our capacity to help animals in need.
Fundraising Goal and Plan:
We need to raise £140,000 for the construction of the new shelter. To manage this large goal, we will conduct fundraising in different rounds, setting smaller targets for each round. Our supporters will receive regular progress updates on the construction work for each round.
First Round Goal: £10,000
For the first round, we aim to raise £10,000 to start the construction of the boundary wall of the shelter. This is a crucial first step in establishing a secure and permanent home for the animals.
Current update of new shelter:
Initial ground leveling work is nearly complete. Next steps include building a boundary wall and constructing all sections.
