Support the Cox Family After Fire Tragedy
Donation protected
Dear friends, family, and community,
The Cox Family—John, Shelley, their son Travis, their daughter Kristina, and her live-in caregiver Kaitlin Alfaro—has faced an unimaginable tragedy. On January 8th, the devastating Palisades/Malibu fire consumed their home, leaving them with nothing but the clothes on their backs and the cherished memories of over 30 years of life together. Tragically, this is the second time the family has lost their home to a Malibu fire, the first being in 1993.
Shelley was home when the fire brigade issued a mandatory evacuation, leaving no time to gather belongings. As a result, the family lost everything. Their daughter, Kristina, is an adult dependent with Cerebral Palsy who requires round-the-clock care and accessible accommodations tailored to her medical needs. The house in Malibu was specifically designed with her requirements in mind.
While we cannot replace what has been lost, we can support them as they navigate this challenging time. We have set up this GoFundMe to cover critical expenses that are not covered by insurance or potential FEMA assistance, including daily essentials such as food, clothing, and hygiene products. Please know that this fund is dedicated to addressing their immediate and uncovered needs.
Every contribution, no matter the size, makes a significant impact. If you are unable to donate, sharing this message with others would mean the world to us.
The Cox family is deeply grateful for the kindness and support they have received from their community and loved ones during this difficult period.
With heartfelt wishes,
Tatiana Calley, cousin and auntie to the Cox Family
Update: The Cox Family wants to express their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has donated—your generosity means more than words can say. While the family is healthy and working together through this challenging time, they are still living apart. As costs continue to rise in the city, we hope that the additional funds raised will help support them until FEMA and insurance assistance come through. We have increased the fundraising goal to better reflect the needs of all family members who lost everything in the fire. Thank you for standing by them during this difficult journey!
