Support the Daily News Union's walkout fund
Donation protected
The City of New York has more than 8 million residents. Our hometown paper only has a staff of 54.
The unionized workers of the New York Daily News are walking off the job today, Thursday, January 25, to demand that Daily News management and Alden Global Capital executives stop undercutting our paper and stop ignoring the existence of our union by trying to change work rules around scheduling, overtime pay, and other issues despite more than two years of bargaining.
Walking out means we are losing our paychecks today. While this is an important sacrifice on the road to a better contract, many members with already stagnant salaries during negotiations will need help getting by.
Members may request funds, which will be disbursed by a committee of leaders in the News' union. This fundraiser is member-led and is not affiliated with the NewsGuild, which may not raise money outside our dues.
Our members are still requesting funds, and we do not know how much we will need, but any donations that exceed these needs will be donated to other journalists' labor causes or strike funds.
Our hard-working members don’t deserve to face financial hardship for fighting to get the contract they deserve. We’re thankful for your donations, which will help us win this fight.
