Help Us Honor Darla Snow Sutton: The Darla Snow Sutton Scholarship Fund
A Legacy of Love and Education
On July 24, 2024, we lost a remarkable woman, Darla Jeanne (Snow) Sutton, at the age of 78. Darla's life was a testament to her deep love for education, service, and faith. Born on November 3, 1945, in Pampa, Texas, Darla's journey was defined by her unwavering dedication to teaching and mentoring, leaving an indelible mark on everyone she encountered.
A Lifelong Passion for Learning
Darla's commitment to education was extraordinary. After receiving her GED, she embarked on an academic journey that led her to Frank Phillips College, Amarillo College, and West Texas State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1982. She furthered her education with a Master of Science Degree from West Texas A&M University in 1995, focusing on Special Education and Administration. Despite only lacking 3 hours to complete her Doctorate Degree, Darla's contributions to education were profound and impactful.
For 50 years, Darla dedicated her life to teaching special education. Her recent role as the Assistant Director of Premier High School in Amarillo, Texas, was a continuation of her lifelong mission to support and uplift students. Her passion for education extended beyond the classroom, influencing many through her roles as a teacher, counselor, and mentor.
A Faithful Servant
Darla's dedication to service was not limited to education. She was an ordained minister, having served as a teacher and counselor at Apostolic Faith Bible College in Baxter Springs, Kansas. Alongside her husband, Darla co-pastored the Trinity Apostolic Faith Church in Alvin, Texas. Her deep faith was evident in her work at Mount of Blessing SDA Church in Amarillo, where she was an active member and held significant roles in Women’s Ministries and Christian Counseling.
Continuing Her Legacy
To honor Darla's incredible life and the values she stood for, we are establishing the Darla Snow Sutton Scholarship. This scholarship will provide $500 to one deserving graduate of Premier High School in Amarillo, Texas, each year until the fund runs out. It is our way of ensuring that Darla's passion for education inspires and supports future generations. The selection committee will be made up of the PHS Amarillo Scholarship fund members and Darla's family.
