For the love of Brad Eastman, we kindly request that you support, financially or otherwise, Brad’s family “uno mas.”
Brad passed away on Saturday, February 27, at age 39 after a courageous 8-year fight with brain cancer. He leaves behind a loving wife, Sarah, a middle-school art teacher, and two amazing children in elementary school, Julianna and Ashton. Throughout Brad’s fight with brain cancer, he continued to be a source of light and inspiration for others. Brad was an enthusiastic endurance athlete and learned of his initial diagnosis shortly after running a PR in a marathon.
As a humble guy, Brad never bragged about his accomplishments, although they were great, comprehensive, and deserve recognition and admiration. Brad touched many organizations throughout his journey, and, no doubt those organizations and folks associated with them became better because of him. A few examples include:
- US Merchant Marine Academy Track & Cross Country community - the place where many miles were shared with laughter and hard work.
- Girls on the Run St. Louis – introduced through Sarah, Brad became the OG Sparkler, encouraging and motivating every runner across the final stretch across the finish line. If you search long enough, you’ll find photos of Brad face tattoos on Facebook. He was one of the organization’s 2018 Energy Award recipients.
- Barnes-Jewish Hospital – as a thriving patient success-story, Brad served as an Fitness Ambassador for the hospital, still competing in running and triathlon events after his initial round of surgeries and treatments. Brad was an unstoppable force. He was the inspiration of the first Emmy-winning Brain Works theater production by Dr. Leuthardt, the neurosurgeon who initially operated on Brad’s brain. This laid the path for future Brain Works productions that both educate, entertain, and inspire audiences through inspirational stories.
- Festival of Miles – After his initial diagnosis, Brad was designated as the event’s Athlete in Need in 2013. Brad inspired thousands as he joined to hand out medals after the kids race.
- Alliance for Proton Therapy Access – Brad penned published articles advocating for access to proton therapy.
Everyone that had the privilege of connecting with Brad necessarily know of Brad’s optimism and catchphrases. One of those was “uno mas.” As you might imagine, Brad’s “uno mas” does not simply mean “one more” of anything, may that be a: mile; lap; laugh; joke; memo; presentation; surgery; treatment; donation; or, any other offering. “Uno mas” to Brad – and now his family, friends, and acquaintances – means, “again, again, and again.”
We will always love Brad, treasure the time we had with him, and appreciate the positive impact he had on our lives. In recognition and admiration of Brad’s positive influence to this world and our lives, we ask that you continue to support his family again, again, and again.
