The Fairfield Foundation's mission is to promote and involve the public in hands-on archaeology, preservation, and education activities within Virginia's Middle Peninsula and surrounding areas.
In response to the COVID-19 outbreak, we have canceled all of our public outreach programs for the foreseeable future and limited our field and lab activities to comply with government-mandated restrictions. We have also canceled major fundraising events this spring and summer in an effort to keep our staff and community safe and to comply with recent restrictions on large gatherings. Additionally, the summer programs we conduct with several national and international organizations have been canceled due to travel restrictions and safety concerns, eliminating a substantial amount of our annual revenue. Several of the grants we apply for each spring have also been postponed or eliminated due to the pandemic.
As a small not-for-profit business, we depend on grants, fundraisers, and program fees to support our staff throughout the year. Losing these sources of revenue has severely impacted our organization, and we are eagerly seeking new ways to keep our team employed during this crisis.
The Fairfield Foundation is seeking your support to help our small business remain operational and to keep our staff employed. We are also requesting support through GoFundMe.org's #SmallBusinessRelief fund program, which offers $500 matching grants to businesses impacted by COVID-19.
We are already working on ways to keep our community engaged in local history through interactive online programs, and we look forward to offering hands-on archaeology and preservation activities again as soon as we can!
