Parents should never have to bury their children. We’ve all heard this saying before, but never imagine it could happen to us. But sometimes, God has other plans. Such is the case for David and Elaine Adkins with the passing of their son Joshua David Adkins. With a contagious smile, humorous wit and unapologetic honesty, Josh lit up every corner of the world he entered as well as every life he encountered. I came across this description of a witty person: A witty person is clever and knows how to work around difficult situations in unexpected ways. That is a brief summary of Josh’s life. Josh spent most of his life “Working around” difficult situations in his battle against AT, (Ataxia Telangiectasia), also known as Louis-Bar syndrome, a rare inherited childhood neurological disorder that affects the part of the brain that controls motor movement and speech. Not many who are affected by AT live beyond 30 years of age, but with his determination and love for life, Josh lived to be 41. Josh didn’t allow his disabilities to get in the way of his abilities. His ability as an artist to paint beautiful paintings, each with their own story. His ability to bring a smile to everyone he came in contact with because of his infectious smile. His ability to laugh and make others laugh with his humor and wit. Josh was recently diagnosed with cancer and succumbed to it yesterday, September 9th.
Here’s what family had to say: So very loving. So very loved. When he was born, I cheered for the baby boy of favorite First Cousin, First Friend : David Adkins. He was a sweet little bundle full of personality and fine blonde hair. And he became a man, full of wit and brains and truth and faith and artistic talent. He didn't let the limitations of his body hold him back. He had courage. So much courage. And now he walks the streets of heaven at the side of his Savior. One day we'll reunite in heaven and our joy will outweigh our current grief. Celeste
The rare specimen and famous artist that Heather Le Westad and I got to call brother ran straight into his faith become sight a couple hours ago. Our “Joshy” - The earth is more dim without you already. My heart is so shattered… but it is so thankful that it knew you and all that you were. How were we so blessed to get to be intimately intertwined with this human representation of grace, contentment, and completely unapologetic honesty? God, I will live every day with a massive gaping wound in my heart… and totally chastised against any semblance of whining or excuses. Those have no place in a life of honoring Joshua David Adkins. I’ll breathe my last and be reunited with him again someday still trying to do his life justice. Megon
It is with sadness we mourn the loss of Josh and at the same time we rejoice with the angels of heaven that Josh has reached his heavenly home. The Adkins family could use your prayers and support during this time of loss. Nothing could prepare them for the loss of their "Joshy". As well, the family was not prepared for the expenses associated with the funeral and expenses incurred during Josh’s recent hospital stay. Would you consider a gift for the Adkins family to ease the financial burden that lies ahead. Thank you for your prayerful consideration.
Psalm 61:1-3 Hear my cry, O God; Attend to my prayer. From the end of the earth I will cry to You, when my heart is overwhelmed; Lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For You have been a shelter for me, a strong tower from the enemy.
