Support Ermarth Family in memory of Michael

Michael Ermarth passed away early in the morning on January 22, 2022 from acute myeloid leukemia and a rare infection at Johns Hopkins University Hospital with Madoka san at his side.

Michael and his beloved wife Madoka san spent a great deal of time together and always supported each other. He was the father of two wonderful children, and it brought him great happiness to watch their activities, including riflery, water polo, music, and the arts. He himself was a very strong Japanese language speaker and greatly contributed to Japanese heritage language education here in the United States. He is irreplaceable.

He fought a very rare disease with courage until the end, and he never lost hope. He continued to work and engage in the community with great vigor, loving his family and friends, and living life to the fullest. The home which Michael and his beloved wife Madoka san created with their children Amity and Isaac, their dog Dice, and their cats Cocoa and Smore, is very quiet, peaceful, and warm. They are steadfastly living here quietly each day since Michael’s passing.

Michael had begun several projects around the house, and they remain unfinished. I believe we as friends can help Michael and the family by supporting the completion of these projects. Several friends have indicated that they would like to help. Please join us in making a donation to help the family to complete these tasks that Michael had begun. All of the donations will be applied in their entirety to these projects at Michael and Madoka san’s home. The completion of this work will directly contribute to the family he loved being able to smile and live happily once again.

大変つらいお知らせですが、私達は愛すべき友人マイケル・エアマートさんを失いました。

去る2022年１月22日の早朝に、再発した急性骨髄性白血病と非常に稀な感染症のため、ジョンズ・ホプキンス大学病院にて、まどかさんに見守られつつ旅立たれました。

マイケルさんは、愛妻まどかさんの夫であり、二人は人生の多くの時間を共有して支え合いました。そして二人の子供達の父であり、彼らの射撃や水球や音楽、芸術活動をとても楽しみにしていました。また彼自信も豊かな日本語能力を持ち、この地の日本語継承教育に深く貢献した、かけがえのない人です。

彼はとても稀なタイプの病気に侵されていましたが、最後まで勇敢に戦い、常に希望を忘れませんでした。その間も健康な人々と同じように、社会的活動をこなし、家族や友人へ愛情を持って接し続けて、強く生きていました。​​​

マイケルさんと彼の愛するまどかさん、アミティーさん、アイザックくん、犬のダイスと、猫のココアとスモアが暮らす家は、とても静かで心安らぐ暖かい場所です。彼らはマイケルさんを失ったあとも、ここで毎日を静かに確実に暮らしています。

マイケルさんが家の手入れをしていた場所のいくつかは、そのままになっていて、これを完成させる必要があると思いました。この特別な場所を守っていくことをサポートすることが、私達友人たちがマイケルさんとその家族のためにできることだと信じております。

幸い、私のもとへは何人もの友人たちが彼らを助けていきたいと言う申し出がありました。

どうか、私達と一緒に、マイケルさんの家族を守っていくための寄付をしていただけませんでしょうか。
