Support the Halpins' Journey with Tay-Sachs

Hello and thank you for checking out Katey and Robert Halpin's GoFundMe page. As many of you know, Katey and Robert began their dream journey to start a family 3 years ago and faced several challenges. But despite these challenges, they were dedicated and so full of love for their future child that they spent 2 years trying and, with the help of fertility specialists, were blessed with the miracle of Calvin on August 26, 2023.

Unfortunately, Calvin was recently diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder called Tay-Sachs disease.

Quoted from the Mayo Clinic, "In the most common and severe form of Tay-Sachs disease, signs and symptoms start to show up at about 3 to 6 months of age. As the disease progresses, development slows and muscles begin to weaken. Over time, this leads to seizures, vision and hearing loss, paralysis, and other major issues. Children with this form of Tay-Sachs disease typically live only a few years." "There is no cure for Tay-Sachs disease, and no treatments are currently proved to slow progression of the disease. Some treatments can help in managing symptoms and preventing complications. The goal of treatment is support and comfort."

To say this news has devastated their lives is an understatement. As a result, Katey has chosen to go on FMLA as she and Robert begin the process of supportive treatment for Calvin at Children's Primary Hospital.
