Support the Harts and employees after the Hammel House Fire
Donation protected
A downtown Waynesville icon and historic gem, Hammel House Restaurant & Inn was damaged by a fire in the early morning hours this past Friday. The frame structure of the building dates back to 1800, and the current building was constructed as an inn and stagecoach stop in 1822. This beloved building sits in the heart of Waynesville’s downtown retail district and is a favorite stop by both traveler's and locals alike. Voted the distinction of Midwestern Traveler’s Best In Ohio for 2024! This building has been steeped in local lore for over 200 years! The Hammel House Inn is now being maintained by Robby and Michelle Hart. Waynesville residents, Robby and Michelle are both military veterans and currently work at Wright-Patterson AFB as Airforce civillians. The Harts have been balancing their busy professional workload on top of running the historic Inn before and after work and weekends, since April of 2022. Not to mention keeping up with the busy lives of their twin girls and son who are students in Waynesville schools. We need our close-knit community to rally around this family who has stepped up and stepped in to preserve this renowned piece of downtown Waynesville history. As renters of the property their insurance is covering items belonging to them that were burned in the fire. They will not be covered for interruption of business and zero coverage will be provided to their amazing employees. We are hoping to reduce the burden on Robby and Michelle as they go through the process of getting the building reopened and also to assist their employees who had their livelihood interrupted without warning. Any support is appreciated!
