Support the Hood Family in Memory of Mike

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Michael Edmund Hood, 74, of Raleigh, NC. He suffered a heart attack and passed away on August 5th, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

Mike was born November 2nd, 1949, in Goldsboro, NC at Wayne County Memorial Hospital, the son of Marvin Edmund Hood and Grace Flowers Hudson.

He graduated from West Mecklenburg High School in 1968 then went to college to study Economics at North Carolina State University.

Mike married Jacqueline Carol Blevins on May 8th, 1976, in Raleigh, NC. They enjoyed 48 years together and had two beautiful children. Theirs is a sweet story. At that time, Mike was driving for UPS and delivering packages to Jackie’s place of work where she was the receptionist. He eventually worked up the courage to ask Jackie to accompany him to the Beach Boys concert where they fell in love. “Wouldn’t it be nice...”

Mike was always called to the open road, where he could enjoy his music and news radio, and spent his career in package delivery and transportation services. He worked tirelessly, often multiple jobs, to support his family.

Outside of the family, his true love was NC State Athletics. Mike supported Wolfpack sports with reckless abandon, often yelling at the TV humorously as a true NCSU fan.

Whether it be a funny joke, a smile or hug, a loving emoji message, a stuffed animal or a sweet card, Mike made sure to hide his life stressors, bring happiness to any situation, and ensure his family always knew how much he loved them. He was the big teddy bear of the family, and truly irreplaceable.

Remaining to cherish Mike’s memory are spouse, Jackie Hood; children, Jennifer (David) Kleiss and Robert Hood; grandchildren, Norah and Sutton Kleiss; and sisters, Kathy Lee, Nancy Barker and Marigrace Faulkner.

Preceding Mike in death are parents, Marvin Hood and Grace Hudson.

Please join us for a memorial service to celebrate the life of Michael Edmund Hood. He was a man of deep faith and we will gather on Saturday, September 7th at 11:00am at Hope Community Church - Raleigh Campus, 821 Buck Jones Rd., Raleigh, NC 27606 to remember our beloved Mike.
