Support the Hoskins Family After Tragic Loss

On the day after Christmas, the Hoskins family experienced an unimaginable tragedy, one that no parent should ever have to endure. Just after celebrating what would likely be their last Christmas with their daughter Katie—whose health has been in decline due to a devastating lung disease which required a double lung transplant two years ago, followed by cancer last year and now chronic rejection which in a matter of months will slowly steal her away—Vera, Katie’s mother, opened the door to find two police officers standing on her porch. They delivered the heartbreaking news that their eldest daughter, Elaine, had tragically lost her life in a car accident on her way to a doctor’s appointment, just a few miles from home.
Elaine recently returned home several weeks early from serving a mission in Utah to be able to join her family on Katie’s Make-A-Wish trip to Disney World. her early return for this trip gave her precious memories with the family. It was a trip that had been pushed back and rescheduled so many times, each time feeling like a great disappointment, until it ended up landing where it did so that Elaine could join. What seemed tragic with each postponement turned out to be a great blessing.
Vera posted on Facebook shortly after recieving the heartbreaking news of Elaine’s passing: “If you knew Elaine at all, then she loved you. She spent many years training in ballet, and loved everyone she danced with. She went to church activities and dances and loved everyone she met. She was planning to go to BYU Idaho for college in a few weeks and had already been texting with people she would meet at school and loved them too. She loved all of God’s children, she enjoyed teaching young ones in primary, and hearing their little testimonies grow. She had a great testimony of God’s plan of happiness and that the temple seals families for eternity. We are so very sure where she is, we are only sad to continue this mortal life in her absence.”
The Hoskins live in a small, unfinished farmhouse, with Vera and Adam sleeping in an unheated part of the unfinished portion, sometimes resorting to sleeping on the couch when the cold becomes unbearable. Their resources have been depleted, and they now face the additional burden of covering the cost of Elaine’s funeral.
The Hoskins family has shown nothing but grace and gratitude throughout their struggles, and now it’s time for us to support them in their darkest hour. Please help us raise funds to cover funeral expenses and ease the financial burden on this incredible family.
