Support the Houlberg Family
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Amanda Moulton and I am cousin to Chrissy Keough Houlberg. On May 26, 2023, Chrissy lost the love of her life when her husband Serin Houlberg died unexpectantly of a sudden illness. Serin was 43 years old and his passing occurred on their 16th wedding anniversary. Chrissy and their two children, Caroline and Brandon, are deeply mourning his passing. They could use your help as they navigate their lives without their devoted husband and father. Both Caroline & Brandon have special needs. While Chrissy has felt the amazing support of her colleagues in the Greensboro Police Department as well as from neighbors and friends, she will need to plan for life without her partner while caring for these two special children.
Serin was born to Deborah and Edward in 1980 and grew up in Granby, Massachusetts with his brother and four sisters. Serin bravely enlisted in the US Army in 2001 and served three years in the Army, in part as a tank gunner in the Iraq War, achieving a rank of Specialist. He was a Member of the Thunder Run convoy in the Battle of Baghdad in April 2003 during the invasion of Iraq earning himself several medals and honors for valor in combat during his tours. While Serin viewed his service with deep pride, he suffered in the years afterward. Serin, like many veterans, struggled with PTSD.
After his honorable discharge, he earned an Associates degree in Applied Systems. He married Chrissy Keough, a Ludlow MA native, in 2007 and they made the move south from Massachusetts to North Carolina. Chrissy is a Crime Scene Investigator with the Greensboro Police Department. She LOVES her job and needs to continue to provide for her family, but it calls for a lot of time away from home and the added uncertainty of on-call hours . Caroline, 10 years old, was born with Hyperekplexia, an extremely rare neurological disorder. She also suffers from a severe form of autism and is non-communicative and unable to connect with the outside world. She retreats to sounds and video held close to her ear for soothing and safety. Caroline's brother, Brandon, is 4 years old and is experiencing some developmental delays and feeding complications. Serin was a devoted father and dedicated caregiver to his family, caring for the children at home and driving them to their appointments, programs and schooling.
Please consider helping Chrissy with whatever donation you can. The care of two precious children now falls solely on Chrissy and while she is one of the strongest women we know, finding daytime and on-call care for the children will be expensive and difficult to find on a full-time basis.
Thank you so much for reading about Serin & Chrissy and our many thanks and gratitude to all the families out there who serve and protect while raising families.
