Support the ID and Walk for Rice!

4/25/20 UPDATE!!!!

Hello beautiful community!

We are overwhelmed with gratitude at the generosity that this community has shown through your financial donations and the sharing of our Go Fund Me page. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.

The admins of the page have been discussing long-term community support and next steps in regard to our Go Fund Me page. We have heard from many of our healthcare professionals and group members that they appreciate our support but would love to see some of these donations go toward communities who are experiencing food insecurities. We have given this serious consideration and want to honor and respect these suggestions. It is important that we uplift one another and highlight the amazing work that folks are doing in community.
Please see below for our updated plans moving forward:

Moving forward, all funds donated to the Go Fund Me page will go to Asian Counseling and Referral Service (ACRS)'s ACRS Walk for Rice.
(to learn more about Walk for Rice please go to: walkforrice.org)

The funds that have already been donated up to the amount of $15,310 will still be used to purchase meals from community businesses and donated to local healthcare workers (which we will continue to post about as deliveries occur!)

ACRS does amazing work in the community. Specifically, they have pivoted from the food bank pick up program in the small trailer in the International District to a food delivery model. The ACRS gym has been transformed into a food distribution center. As many as 1600 bags of groceries are assembled by a small army of volunteers and then distributed to several senior residential buildings in the International District and to community distribution centers throughout the county.  One day as many as 9 Metro Access vans were utilized to help deliver food. This need increases every week as the demand grows. We recently received requests for delivery as far out as Ballard and Redmond.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?
Here are three direct ways for you to donate to this effort to support the ID community and beyond through ACRS:

- Continue donating directly to our Go Fund Me.  Again, all donations over the amount already raised ($15,310) will be administered to the ACRS Walk for Rice, which is an annual fundraiser that directly supports the ACRS Food Bank.

- Donate to or join our team! The admins of this page in partnership with the amazing Stephanie Tsukiko Nomura have created a team for Walk for Rice called 'Community United'.
To donate to our team's effort or to join as a team member, please copy and paste this link into your browser: http://acrs.walkforrice.org/site/TR/Events/General?team_id=2030&pg=team&fr_id=1130

-Share, share, share! We want to be conscientious of the fact that not everyone is able to give financially. We want to highlight that all forms of support are valid and that we appreciate all contributions folks are able to make, whether that be monetarily, a post like, post shares, etc.

As always if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out and we are happy to talk with you. This is a community effort and we take your feedback seriously. Thank you so much for the movement we have built together and for your continued support of the ID community and beyond.

Keeping this information for transparency and historical purposes, the below is no longer relevant as of 4/25/20.

The founders of Support the ID - Community United  humbly present: Support the ID and Healthcare Workers.

What is this fundraiser?
In our mission to support small businesses in the Chinatown International District (otherwise known as the CID or ID) in Seattle, we thought this would be a great opportunity to give some love to our local healthcare workers as well. The goal of this fundraiser is to provide meals to healthcare workers who are currently on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic.

How does it work?
- Donate whatever you can. All funds raised will go toward buying food from one of our small locally-owned restaurants. The food will then be delivered to healthcare workers at a pre-specified hospital or clinic (which we will communicate with beforehand to make sure they are able to accept).

- A crowd-sourced list of restaurants will be put together through suggestions provided by the community. That list will be put into a random choice generator to select the restaurant we will be ordering from for that week. We will call the restaurant ahead of time to make sure that they can handle a large takeout order and to specify details as needed.

- We will try and do this once a week depending on funds available. We will aim to spend approximately $1,000 (plus tip) at each restaurant selected.
