My name is Lisa Durden and I’m excited to raise funds for Blind Divas, a documentary showcasing the inspiring journeys of Krystle Allen and Naquela Wright-Prevo. This film highlights the resilience of Black women navigating vision loss, aiming to empower others and bridge the gap between sighted and blind communities.

The mission of the Blind Divas documentary is to amplify the voices and stories of blind Black women, showcasing their resilience, strength, and success as they navigate life’s challenges. Through powerful storytelling, the project aims to inspire, educate, and challenge societal perceptions of vision loss, fostering a more inclusive and unified community.

The Blind Divas documentary addresses the societal misconceptions and biases surrounding blindness, particularly the limited visibility of blind Black women in mainstream narratives. By highlighting the personal and professional journeys of blind women like Krystle Allen and Naquela Wright-Prevo, the film aims to dispel stereotypes, reduce stigma, and challenge the belief that vision loss limits one's ability to lead a full, independent life. This project seeks to create greater understanding and empathy, bridging the gap between the sighted and blind communities and promoting inclusion and empowerment.

This documentary addresses the problem of societal ignorance and bias toward blindness by offering authentic, firsthand stories that challenge stereotypes. It provides a platform for the blind community to have agency over their own narratives, fostering greater understanding and inclusivity. Additionally, it encourages viewers to see beyond disability, creating a bridge between the sighted and blind communities. Through widespread distribution and public engagement, Blind Divas aims to spark meaningful conversations and inspire systemic change around accessibility, representation, and equity.

We are seeking funding to complete Blind Divas in order to bring this important story to life and foster greater understanding around blindness, particularly for Black women. The funding will be critical in covering key production costs such as filming equipment, crew compensation, and post-production work including editing, sound design, and accessibility features like audio descriptions and closed captioning.

Additionally, the funds will support outreach efforts to ensure the documentary reaches diverse audiences, including public screenings, festivals, and educational programs. This funding will allow us to produce a high-quality film that resonates emotionally, educates, and advocates for greater inclusivity.
