The amazing people in the cover photo are my parents Rodney and Vicky. They are the kind of people who jump in to help when they can and rarely know a stranger, and rarely ask for help themselves. They prefer to just figure it out and make it work, but this time - I'm asking for them.
In November 2024, my mom ended up in the hospital for what we assumed was a simple GI issue or bloating. Come to find out she had fluid on her abdomen and lungs. Since then, she has ended up in the ER/hospital 5 times to have the fluid drawn off, plus two additional outpatient procedures for it. She proceeded to see numerous specialists in that time who tried to figure out what was going on. Long story short, several doctors and several tests later, she was diagnosed with Stage 4 Ovarian Cancer on January 16, 2025.
My parents have always lived within their means one paycheck to the next. And if they had their way, they would continue to do so not asking for help because they don't want their burden to be placed on anyone else, but I know that there are people who would help if we asked. So I am asking for them. From November to January the medical bills had already gone over $5,500 and that includes none of her cancer diagnosis treatment bills yet. That is simply the bills from pre-diagnosis which included ambulance rides, ER visits, numerous tests, procedures to remove the fluid. The bills are going to continue to rack up and while they are using payment plans to try and pay them as they can on a single income (my mom has been on disability for most of my life), I know that it's a stressor they don't need right now and according to the EOBs they are receiving, there should be additional bills coming in making the total more than $10,000 (we assume treatment bills, but haven't received those yet).
So here is the ask, if you are willing to help them, we would be beyond grateful. All funds will be used for medical bills, mom's treatment costs, gas to get to and from treatment (a 2 hour drive), and whatever else comes along that keeps them from worrying about financial strains.
DO NOT put any unnecessary stress on yourself by donating because I know that mom would absolutely not want that.
I can't thank you enough for taking the time to consider helping my parents. They mean the world to me and I always say I won the parent lottery because they are two of the greatest people I know.
