A few years ago, on November 25, 2020, during the height of the global pandemic, my life changed forever. I had severe chest pain, shortness of breath, and spiked fevers. I immediately rushed myself to urgent care only to find out that I had contracted COVID-19. I was induced into a coma, had a tracheostomy in my throat, a feeding tube in my stomach, and was put on a ventilator from December 2020 to August 2021. I lost my voice, had to relearn how to breathe, talk, stand, walk, swallow pills, and do basic things we do regularly. I went through several hospitalizations from Northern Virginia to West Virginia, DC. Doctors counted me out, gave me 2 days to live, coded, touch and go, almost died 4 times, diabetes, morbid obesity, shortness of breath, and end-stage renal failure to now be treated with hemodialysis. I was a goner BUT GOD!
Because of contracting long COVID-19, staying in the hospital for 14 months bedridden, and losing my ability to walk, I am confined to a bariatric (x-large) wheelchair. I am in need of a foldable bariatric electronic wheelchair that will transport me wherever I need to go without depending on others to push me. I thank anyone and everyone who is willing to donate even a little to help my situation run a little smoother. Every dollar counts!
