Support the Leo D. Monteer Memorial Scholarship

Donation protected
Hello friends and family!
The Monteer family is raising funds for the 6th annual Leo D. Monteer Memorial Vocational-Technical Scholarship. Each year, Leo’s three sons; Dale, Donnie, and Chris present a cash award to a New Franklin student interested in a Vocational career after high school. We will be serving some great food at Santa Fe Trail Days this weekend (September 20-21) in New Franklin if you would like to come support this great cause. Please help us reach our goal to help support your local future Vo-tech leaders! If you would like to know more about Leo, read below or come see us this weekend! The Monteer family is so thankful for your support.

Leo Dale Monteer was born in a small house outside Stover, MO on September 22, 1943. He was the last of 5 children born to his parents Coleman and Cecil (Goans) Monteer.

His family moved to Northern California when he was in the 5th grade, and despite his brief presence there, he was elected President of his class. The family then moved back to Central Missouri, much to his chagrin. He left school in the 9th grade to cut stave bolts and help support his family.

He married Patricia Ann Bishop on December 22, 1962. He mainly logged and cut pulp wood for the next several years in order to support his wife and 3 sons.

In 1973, he rented a little shop near the site of the old Snoddy’s Store and began welding operations. A couple of years later, he moved his shop to an old gas station across from Kit Carson Motel. Then, three years later, he rented a much larger shop next to the old Hudson Oil gas station. Still later, in 1985, he procured 5 acres in Franklin, Mo and built his own shop, which is still in operation today, owned by his son, Chris.

He took care of his Mom and Dad until the day they each died. He never asked for anything he didn’t work for and was widely regarded as one of the most amicable and affable citizens of Howard County.

Leo passed away in March 2012 from cancer. He left the earth with no bills, no debt, and left everything he owned to his 3 sons. A memorial scholarship is presented in his memory every year to a promising student of New Franklin High School.
