PLEASE JOIN US IN SUPPORTING VULNERABLE LGBTQIA+ UGANDANS AND GRANTING THEM ACCESS TO BASIC HUMAN RIGHTS AMENITIES
Challenge
Ugandan legislators passed an anti-homosexuality bill in 2023, which has increased threats to the safety of the LGBTQIA+ community in Uganda, including brutal arrests, violence, and homophobic campaigns. These challenges have put the lives of LGBTQIA+ people at great risk, neglect, denial of health care, police brutality and threats to basic human rights, which has seen an increase in immense hunger, displacement, depression and suicide.
Solution
We will:
- advocate for equality
- provide emergency transportation to access health care, especially for those affected by HIV
- provide emergency transportation to temporary safe havens including boarding costs and medical fees
- respond to all human rights violations to members at risk of attacks
- provide nutrition support. Community members are now discriminated against by employers which means they can’t work and have no basics such as food.
Long-Term Impact
Diverse Empowerment Foundation will continue providing assistance and information about safety and security, and equal human rights for the LGBTIQ+ community in Uganda as part of the Convening For Equality Team (CFE ). We will continue the fight against laws that criminalize human rights.
