Kamryn (Gabriella) Marvin (17 yrs old) complained of stomach pains from a young age. When she was in first grade her mother (Christine) started noticing Kamryn wasn’t gaining weight and being very lethargic and became concerned.

For two years she worked with doctors to figure out what was happening before testing began. She went to many different types of doctors for testing but it all came back inconclusive. Still not gaining weight, and now having issues with vomiting, a Wyckoff Mom put Christine in touch with a GI in the City. This is when it was discovered that Kamryn has SMA Syndrome.

SMA Syndrome is when the bottom part of the stomach is pinched between two arteries. This occurs when there is not enough fat to keep things in place. When she came home, Christine became Kamryn’s full-time nurse.

Fast forward to 3/22 when Kamryn was sent to CHOP, where she is currently being treated. Due to her SMA, she has now developed additional symptoms, anemia (she is getting blood transfusions), fever, pneumonia symptoms, and severe anxiety which has moved her now to the PICU. Christine just wants her baby to feel better.

Christine has been spending all of her time at CHOP with Kamryn and her mother. She hasn’t been able to work and they are struggling to keep up with medical bills. This has been a hardship for the entire family, which includes two other children, one of whom has autism.
