Hi friends-My name is Sara Meyers and I live in Dallas, TX doing communications work by day and enjoying family time with my husband and kids at night. When I'm not doing that, I'm typically around my people, so let me tell you about some of my favorite people and their story!
Collin Carter (now Goldsmith) and I met at Texas A&M University back in our sophomore year 17 years ago. Since then, we've been living really close life together in a little clan we've setup just two neighborhoods all from each other.
Anyone who knows Collin will tell you--she is one of the most faithful people you'll ever meet in your life. She is a loyal, committed friend, protective sister, loving daughter, and rockstar wife to Adam and epic mama to Carter.
Collin has been in a Crohn's disease flare-up since November of 2023. Her doctors have tried various solutions over the past 10 months, but ultimately realized surgery was the only option after she developed a bowel obstruction. Her first surgery was performed back in mid-July and was deemed successful to cut out a tissue mass and small piece of her intestine.
Recovery did not go as planned and Collin's symptoms, unfortunately, did not improve. After going to the ER on August 16, her doctors admitted her. She had follow-up surgery on August 20 and they removed 4 small sections of her intestines where there was narrowing. Surgery was successful but later that night--Collin's blood pressure crashed and they had to move her to ICU. She was placed on meds to help her blood pressure and Tuesday morning after tests, she underwent emergency surgery to check for internal bleeding.
Thankfully, there was no bleeding, however, there was a massive amount of fluid all around her organs (medical term is "Third Stage") and her body was being overloaded by it. 24 hours later, it was determined Collin needed diuretics to get the fluid out because it was pushing toward her lungs and causing swelling across her body. Her heart also went under evaluation with an echocardiogram and it was found to only be functioning at 50%.
Around 4:30am Thursday that week, Collin had to be placed on a ventilator because of continued shortness of breath. She would stay on the vent for 10 days. On August 28, Collin underwent another surgery to fully take care of fluid there and an ostomy bag was placed to give her bowels a chance to finally calm down.
On September 1, Collin began to nod, try to talk, and express how much she wanted the breathing tube out. We praise God for this miracle and on September 2, the tube was removed. Collin is still fighting sepsis and trying to gain strength, but they are grateful for the medical team who has been faithfully by their side.
With these supports and medical interventions, we know there is a cost, in addition to needs associated with work that can't be fulfilled and daycare costs for their sweet son Carter. Please consider giving any amount you feel led to give! We believe God provides and He already knows how He's going to answer every need of Collin's, Adam's and Carter's both physically, financially, spiritually and emotionally.
Let's show up for them. Thank you!
