Support the MS Society: A Tribute to a Mother's Strength
Tax deductible
If you are reading this, you probably know me, and here’s why I’m hoping you’ll consider my request for a donation to the National MS Society.
At the age of 29, my mom was “examined neurologically for the first time on September 26, 1975.” On September 8, 1986, following an MRI which showed “unmistakable plaquing” she was officially diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis.
My mom’s battle with MS, for the last 49 years (and hence the fundraising goal) has fundamentally impacted the person I am today.
I’ve long day-dreamed about holding big fundraising gala’s to donate to MS charities, but that hasn’t happened. So, I decided I’ll do what I can—here and now.
The catalyst for this fundraising now, is that a while back I decided I wanted to try to hike Rim-to-Rim (R2R) of the Grand Canyon. On Sunday (July 14), I will descend 5900 feet into the canyon from the North Rim--hiking 14 miles down the North Kaibab trail. On Monday (July 15), I will hike the Bright Angel trail 10 miles and gain 4300 feet to arrive at South Rim.
There are not enough steps I could take—into any canyon or to the top of any mountain—which would ever come close to walking a day in my mother’s shoes. She has lived with more grit and grace than anyone I’ve ever known.
However, before I take a step, I wanted to offer up gratitude and my full awareness of the privilege I have to even get to make the choice to try.
This in honor of my mother.
Thank you for reading this far... and for supporting this cause if you are so inclined and able.
