Support the Mudd family through a difficult time
My name is Cory Thomas and I'm starting this fundraiser on behalf of James and his family. The goal is to help alleviate some of the financial hardship they will be facing in the coming months. All funds will ONLY be accessible by James or his parents.
During the afternoon of Wednesday July 14th James dove into a pool and struck the bottom headfirst, breaking his neck. He was with his children when this happened. They alerted an adult when they realized he was hurt. He was pulled out of the pool and they began CPR while waiting for the EMT’s. He was transported to Woodhull fire department before being flown to Sayre. When he got to Sayre they ran a CAT scan but couldn’t run the MRI at their facility so again he was transported, this time to Geisinger hospital in Danville PA. This is where he underwent surgery to attempt to repair the damage caused during the accident. The result was the removal of his C5 and C6 vertebrae. They placed a carbon fiber strut where the missing vertebrae were and fused it together with the C4 and C7. He is currently in TICU at Geisinger recovering from the procedure. He is coherent and acknowledging communication with people though he still has a breathing tube in and cannot communicate extensively himself.
For those that do not know him James was born and raised in Lindley NY. He’s the father of 3 beautiful children as well as a father figure to the other children in his life. He attended college and received his degree before taking a position with Corning Incorporated and then eventually a spot in corrections. His connection to his fellow CO’s is remarkably close, more like a fraternity than coworkers.
The money raised here will be to cover an array of costs for James and his family moving forward. The most immediate things will be travel expenses for his family as they go back and forth to the hospital, as well as looking into more permanent accommodations for them wherever James will be going through rehabilitation. Funds will also be used to help cover his bills while he’ll be out of work (there is no projected time frame currently) as well as providing any kind of financial assistance his children may need. Please take the time to share this post, please donate if you’re blessed enough to be able to, and above all please keep the Mudd family in your thoughts in prayers.
