Hello everyone on the internet, my name is August Simien.
I am the current president of THE NEW BUFFALO SOLDIERS.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with the Buffalo Soldiers, allow me a moment to give you a brief overview.
The Buffalo soldiers were the first official Black American soldiers. During the civil war all Black soldiers were volunteers.
Buffalo Soldiers played a major role in the expansion of the American military after the brutal civil war depleted our standing military down to dangerously low levels. This heavily decorated group of men were known as the protectors of the new frontiers.
Established over 28 years ago, The New Buffalo Soldiers is a 501C3 non-profit organization comprised of a group of historians dedicated to the honor and memory of the Black servicemen known as Buffalo Soldiers in general and Company H, 10th United States Cavalry in particular,. The group's mission is to enlighten the public about these brave Black soldiers. We feel these under celebrated Black American soldiers' stories need to be heard today more than ever.
The New Buffalo Soldiers approach this task of educating the public by exhibiting static displays, presenting historical depictions, riding in parades and delivering lectures, interpretations and dramatizations related to the exploits and adventures of these important contributors to the history of the United States of America. Some notable appearances include:
* 24 year participation riding in The Tournament of Roses Parade
*The Opening ceremony at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake, UT
*The Gene Autry Museum
*The Emancipation Proclamation Honor Guard at the Ronald Regan Presidential Library & presentations at the Huntington and Bower libraries
*Honor Guard at the annual Memorial Day celebration at the Los Angeles Veterans National Cemetery.
*Not to mention many churches, schools and festivals.
*This list goes on and on….
The New Buffalo Soldiers generally meets the substantial expenses of maintaining their authentic military equipment and accoutrements, feeding and caring for wonderful horses, and costs such as insurance, travel vehicle and equipment storage, to the National organization , etc. with donations received through the various mentioned activities. Throughout the years, we have been able to have ourselves seen and our voices heard at a variety of venues. We have done the best we can using Zoom and we were still successful getting the message out where we could. But unfortunately, we are struggling to meet these recurring and required annual financial obligations
Because of Covid19 safety restrictions, none of these revenue generating activities have been possible for the entire year, so the group is in financial straits and would appreciate your donations to meet these obligations.
If you are feeling generous and would like to support a part of living history then please donate whatever you can and if you can’t donate today, I hope you were inspired to go and learn more about the Buffalo soldiers, or perhaps to even join us. You can find our group and members through our website, abuffalosoldier.com
Generous contributions to The New Buffalo Soldiers in any amount are helpful. As The New Buffalo Soldiers is an official 501C3 not for profit organization, your contributions are tax deductible.
We hope to be able continue spreading our message for many years to come and we look forward to seeing you all again.
God Bless.
