Support the Nguyen Family After Tragic Loss

Donation protected
The past 48 hours have devastated our family. As many of you may have heard, my uncle, Travis (Steve) Nguyen, was mercilessly killed on March 19, 2025. He was the sole provider for his family of seven, and with his passing, the future of his business, LA Nails, is uncertain. We are now facing significant financial hardship.

Beloved members of our Alma community have seen how tirelessly he worked—seven days a week for 20 years. Many know why: he loved his family. He left behind his wife, Sue, and his five daughters: Karen (24), Brianna (19), Natalee (13), Jaclyn (11), and Vivian (6). We are uncertain how to manage Sue’s healthcare costs or our household bills. Along with supporting Karen through medical school and Brianna through college, he was diligently saving for the younger girls’ education. Beyond caring for his family in Michigan, he was also financially supporting his relatives in Vietnam.

When the girls lost their mom on Christmas Day in 2013, Travis was the thread holding our family up. We were able to rely on our personal village to stay afloat then, but this time around, the funeral expenses have been overwhelming. Additionally, we are working to relocate family members to Michigan to be there for the girls as they navigate this difficult time, but the cost of relocation adds another layer of financial strain. We are reaching out to our community to support his daughters and help them maintain any semblance of normalcy without their parents.

My name is Tiffany, and I am Travis’s niece. I moved in with my uncle during high school and became an extra dependent in a household already supporting his five daughters. However, I also took on the role of helping care for my younger cousins, especially after their mom passed away. I have always seen my uncle as a father figure. In this challenging time, I plan to move back in with the girls to help them get back on their feet, assist with the estate and legal matters, and rebuild a safe, stable and loving home.

The funds we raise will be used for a range of critical expenses to ensure the girls have the stability they need during this time of transition. These include:

Initial expenses:
- Funeral costs
- Funeral service arrangements
- Headstone
- Medical bills relating to the death
- Obtaining Death Certificates
- Expenses incurred due to the unexpected nature of the loss (e.g. transportation/gas, food)

Ongoing expenses for the next few months:
- Rent for the older daughters in college until the semester ends
- Daycare and other necessary childcare costs for the younger girls
- Medical expenses/healthcare costs
- Routine bills such as auto payments and utilities that keep the household running.

Costs to assist with the transition:
- Moving expenses to relocate the family
- Legal fees related to managing the estate and navigating the challenges ahead
- Continued support for the girls' education and daily living expenses.

The funds will be sent to my account, and Karen (Travis’ eldest daughter) and I will be responsible for using the funds on behalf of the girls, ensuring that each expense is met and their needs are fully addressed during this difficult time.

My family is deeply grateful for your love and support. Thank you for standing by us as we face the overwhelming challenges ahead. Your kindness means the world to us.
