Support the Peer Family Battling Epilepsy

Donation protected
The Peers are a young family here in Lewiston. Both Brandon and Rachel work for the school district while raising two active young boys. Their oldest, Landyn, was first diagnosed with a seizure disorder early in grade school. Now as a freshman in high school at 14 years old, his seizures have advanced in type, duration, and frequency. He now sees a specialized children’s neurologist Seattle for his rare form of epilepsy, one in which his seizures seem to get worse rather than better as he grows.

Last weekend, after the first full week of school, Landyn had a seizure that lasted 9 long minutes. He was given his rescue meds but they didn’t help. Paramedics were called and he had to be rushed to the hospital. He is back at home recovering and “back to normal”, but it has happened a few times again since then. While consulting with his out-of-state doctor, they are adjusting medications to get him back to feeling better so he can get back to school on with life. This seizure was much different than anything they have seen him experience to date, one that really shook everyone to the core at how fragile life really is.

Aside from the incredible emotional stress and worry for the family as they struggle to navigate this complicated and ever-evolving condition, the family will undoubtedly face financial hardships associated with Landyn’s medical care. Both parent have missed work this last week, something that happens at the drop of a hat when he has a “bad day”. They travel to Seattle - lodging, gas, fuel, etc- to see the specialist in this field. Landyn would benefit from an Apple Watch and monthly subscription to a seizure monitoring application to alarm his parents when he needs immediate medical assistance. There have been emergency room visits, medical studies and hospital stays, not all of which are covered completely by insurance.

The Peer family has a strong team of friends, family, and doctors, but in order for them to focus on solutions forward and positive, healing energy, they need to put the financial burdens ahead out of mind. Please consider donating to this family, supporting them as they find a way back to health and happiness as a whole.
