Support THE RING (Hands of help)
Nakivale Refugee Settlement in Uganda is a vibrant hub of diversity, where you can meet the whole of Africa in an hour. With that said, diversity also brings challenges, and xenophobia, tribalism and divisions are prevalent problems in the communities.
In this context, a group of young refugees have created a project called THE RING (Hands of Help) with an aim to fight against xenophobia and for inclusion and unity amongst their fellow refugees. Through intercultural art shows organized two times a year, they wish to highlight similarities, celebrate their cultures and their fellow African identities, showcasing the strenghets of diversity.
With over 80 artists in their reach, using art forms such as music, modern and traditional dance, drama, poetry and fashion, the three art shows already executed has been a success, but the potential and need to reach new communities is great.
Living on food rations from UNHCR and some limited farming opportunities, the young entrepreneurs need your support in order to continue with the work they are doing. The next art show is in the making, and the organization wishes to expand to offer non-violent communication training, counseling and mediation sessions and leadership training to the youth of Nakivale. Already they have created an awareness organization concerned with strengthening the position of the albino community in the settlement, which faces discrimination and exclusion in their daily lives.
With financial support THE RING (Hands of Help) can be able to continue their important work of fostering empathy and unity amongst the young generations growing up in Nakivale. These are passionate and initiative entrepreneurs who have taken matters into their own hands to work for a more peaceful environment than the ones they have fled from.
With the current political situation in most Western countries regarding migration and xenophobia against migrants, where things seem hopeless and it is difficult to know how to help, money is a real and substantial way to show support and allyship.
No matter how big or small, every contribution is greatly appreciated!
